Ulduar: Ignis

I finally got a chance to fight Ignis this week, completing my Siege achievement.   All in all, I thought it was a really fun fight for the MT.  I like the idea of the dps getting dunked in the slag pot, too.

The general strategy is to just move him around after he drops fire on the ground, which is fairly simple and brainless.  I found, though, that the wrinkles to this fight are in doing a few other things:

  • Move out of Scorch to reduce incoming damage.
  • Move Ignis enough that the fire patches are not touching, providing a path for the rest of the group to follow when they need to move.
  • Don’t move Ignis so much that the patches are too far away.  This was a real problem for me on our first couple of tries because when Ignis drops the fire close enough to either of the two pools of water the fire will despawn.  In other words, there will be no way to make the adds molten (and, subsequently, brittle).

That last note is important and, somehow, went totally unnoticed by me after at least two wipes.  Thankfully our OT pointed out the problem to me and we downed Ignis on the next pull.  Getting that trick right (or, rather, not wrong) made the boss fight a lot easier for us.
